City of Skopje

Skopje is the capital of the Republic of Macedonia. Today the city is a melting-pot of political, economic and cultural activities, with a population of over 600.000 inhabitants, covering an area of 1.818 sqkm. The City of Skopje is a special unit of local self government regulated with a special law, which regulates its organization and competences. The City of Skopje provides for the organisation and functioning of the spatial and urban planning, protection of environment and nature, local economic development, financing of the works within the competence of the City of Skopje, performance of communal activities, achievement and development of culture, education, sport, social welfare and child protection, healthcare, organisation and coordination of civil protection and firefighting, and provides for the performance of supervision.
